The black-crowned waxbill (''Estrilda nonnula'') is a common species of estrildid finch found in western-central Africa. It has an estimated global extent of occurrence of 1,000,000 km2. It is found in Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Central African Republic, The Democratic Republic of the Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, Rwanda, South Sudan, Tanzania and Uganda. The IUCN has classified the species as being of least concern. ==Origin== Origin and phylogeny has been obtained by Antonio Arnaiz-Villena ''et al.''.
